With the sea on three sides Haikou enjoys a long coastline that features good bathing beaches and sea side resorts.

Located about 10 KM from downtown Haikou in the west, Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩) is the most popular beach in Haikou both for tourists and local citizens. Lasting for 6 KM, Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩) is also the closest beach with waters sports, shops, restaurants from Downtown Haikou. As you can see from the pictures below, Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩) is just ok, not sandy white, not as soft as the beaches in Sanya. So for a real beach holiday, please come down to Sanya at the very southern part of Hainan Island for the best beaches in China.

Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩 is busy with local people, so it is not easy to enjoy a quite sun bath or reading in the sun with many locals walking around you. Many times, they would like to take a picture with you.

Haikou enjoys a sub-tropical climate, so in winter time (Late December till February), the sea water is below 20癈 (68癋). Sometimes, affected by cold air from Mainland China, the lowest temperature could be less than 10癈(50癋).

From Downtown Haikou to Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩, please take bus No.28, 35, 37, 40 and Tour Bus B.

If you are in Haikou during Dragon Boat Festival, don't miss the special view on the Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩: thousand of local citizens come to Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩 for saint bath at 12:00 noontime. They may come by bus, by car, by motocycle, bus. For some citizens, it is the only time that they come to take a bath in seawater even they live year around in Sanya. Some of them just jump into the sea without proper swimming wears.

 

 

There is another beach in Haikou called Xixiu Beach (xixiu haitan 西秀海滩）which is around around 2KM from Haikou Xiuying Harbour. Xixiu Beach is where China's National sailing and windsurfing teams train and hold competitions. Xixiu Beach (xixiu haitan 西秀海滩) is also the best place to enjoy the most beautiful sunset in Haikou.

 Xixiu Beach (xixiu haitan 西秀海滩) is a good beach to be in Haikou if you are interested in sailing and windsurfing. It is quite and empty compared with Holiday Beach Holiday Beach (JIARI HAITAN 假日海滩).

But for beaches on Hainan Island, the best leaches are in Sanya which is 3.5 hours driving from Haikou.
