Boat or ferry from Zhanjiang Guangzhou to Haikou Hainan Island is another option to travel from Mainland China to Hainan Island. Ferry/boat from Zhanjing to Haikou runs daily, departure time is 8am from Zhanjing and arrives Haikou in the afternoon at 4pm. But ferries/boats are depending very much on the weather conditions. June till October is raining and typhoon season. we suggest that you check weather forecast before booking your ferry/boat ticket from Zhanjiang to Hainan.

Normally reservation is not required as the ferry/boat has plenty of seats vailable most times. But it may happen that no seats available if you buy at the counters during China Chinese New Year which falls on different days late January or early February each year. As there are trains running between Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhanjing to Haikou & Sanya Hainan Island, Zhanjiang to Haikou by train is not popular any more.  But Hai'an which is the southern tip of Mainland China is the must departure port to travel to Haikou if you arrives at Hai'an by bus from Zhanjing or if you drive yourself from mainland China to Hainan Island. The distance between Hai'an Guangdong Province and Xingang New Harbor Haikou Hainan Island is just 11 sea miles. There are ferries hourly from Hai'an to Haikou, the last one is at 12am midnight. Price is just RMB30/person.

If you drive to Hai'an, you have to pay for your car and goods in your car. Your car will travel in the same boat with you. So it is very easy to drive your own car to Hainan Island from Mainland China.
