Haikou is the capital of Hainan Island which has 8 million populations. As there are more flights from Mainland China to Haikou than to Sanya, you may want to find out how to travel from Haikou to Sanya if you have to book a flight to Haikou, but your destination is Sanya.

Here you will find three ways that you could travel to Sanya from Haikou:

First Choice, also the Cheapest way to travel Haikou-Sanya

By Bus to Sanya from Haikou within 3.5 hours at RMB80/person/way from Haikou South Bus Station (Haikou Nanzhhan), not from East Bus Station any more.

There are buses from 7am to 11pm daily from Haikou South Bus Station (Haikou Nanzhan)to Sanya Bus Station.The buses run 3.5 hours non-stop along the east high way. It  costs RMB80/person/way in a deluxe bus with air conditioner and noisy TV also. A cheaper one costs RMB50/person, but it stops all the way and it takes 4.5 hours to be in Sanya. So when you buy a ticket from Haikou to Sanya, tell the staff that you need an express bus （Chinese: Kuai che). The bus schedule Sanya-Haikou: From 7am to 6pm, every 20 minutes/bus. From 7pm to 11pm, every hour/bus.

If you are travel alone, bus is the best choice as it is cheap, convenient and safe.

Second Choice to travel Haikou-Sanya:

By Taxi from Haikou  Airport to Sanya within 3.5 hours at RMB500/way/taxi for max.4 adults

Taxi is the easiest way to go. But you have to barging and make a deal with the driver before you start. And it may happen that you have to change to another car near the high way. So you take a really taxi from Haikou Airport, then change to a private car near the high way without paying the taxi driver.  If two and three people travel together and you want to save time, taxi is a good choice.

But the luggage space of all taxies are very limited. So if you have big suitcases, it is better to take bus or book the private car from http://www.sunnnysanya.com as mentioned below.

Third Choice to travel Haikou-Sanya:

By Private car organized by http://www.sunnysanya.com from hotels in Haikou or directly from Haikou Airport within 3.5 hours at RMB900/way/car max. 4 adults. A private van will cost RMB1800/way/van max.6 adults + 2 kids. Our driver speaks Chinese. Private cars/vans are always in a better conditions with our own drivers. Hyundai Van for max. 7 adults. Luggage space is limited	GM Chevy (private car from http://www.sunnysanya.com )for 3 adults or 2 adults with 2 kids. Very spacious luggage space.

Last Choice to travel Haikou-Sanya:  

There are 3 trains from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to Sanya stop over in Haikou. So traveling by train from Haikou is another option. We checked all the time table, and woud like to recommend the following 2 options:

1. K407 from Guangzhou to Sanya, arrives at Haikou Train Station at 0850am and leaves Haikou at 9am. The train arrives at Sanya Train Station at 1239pm and costs RMB80/way which is the same cost as a local bus. You could just go to the train station on non-public holidays and get tickets at Haikou Train Station.

2. K511 from Shanghai-Sanya, arrives Haikou at 18:27 and arrives in Sanya at 22:17.  costs RMB80/way which is the same cost as a local bus. You could just go to the train station on non-public holidays and get tickets at Haikou Train Station.
