Hainan Island enjoys a monsoon sub tropical AND tropical climate with annual average temperatures ranging between 18°C (65°F)and 28°C (82°F) and annual rainfall between 1,500 mm and 2,000 mm. An average of about 12 hours per day have daylight and more than 300 days of a year, on average, are sunny.

Average annual temperatures hover at a beautiful 22-28 degrees Celsius. However April through June can be very hot and Humid. Typhoons are a fact of Hainan Island Life with at least one hitting per year. Typically between July and September. The powerful winds and rains can be devastation and shut down Hainan Island's transportation for one or two days.

But the interesting thing is the small island enjoys two nice climates, Haikou and its surrounding areas are in the sub topical climate and Sanya is right in the topical climate, which is the main reason why Sanya is the destination for all visitors and it is the highlight of Hainan Island.
