Rent a car on Hainan Island

From Dec.30th, 2010, there are bulletin Trains/express trains/high speed trains available along the east coast of Hainan Island. Now it is easy to travel by express train/bulletin train along the east coast of Hainan Island from Haikou to Sanya within 2 hours. Your will have a great view on the way. Haikou is 2 hours ride from Sanya. Normally it is more expensive to fly out Sanya, so the other option is to take express train from Sanya to Haikou, then fly out from Haikou Meilan Airport.

There is one train in every half an hour from 7am till 10pm. On line booking is available from Sept.22nd, but all information is only in Chinese. Don't worry, it is possible to get train ticket upon arrival at Haikou Meilan Airport, but during public holidays, you may have to wait long hours. The tickets are available for booking 10 days in advance. Tickets with no seat assigned are also available at the same prices during high season (Dec. --- Feb.). It is possible to get the tickets changed once even 2 hours after the original departure time to anytime on the same day. Tickets are refundable before departure time. Child less than 1.2 meter in height travel free with parent (s), child between 1.2-1.5 meters are get 50% off the normal prices. Child more than 1.5 meters high have to pay adult rate.

Refund Policy: Refund must be advised before departure time, and refund fee is 20% of the ticket cost.
Amendment Policy: It is possible to have departure time amended to the same day trains within 2 hours after original departure time free of charge, but only once. If no seats available, then the tickets get invalid

It is easy to travel by bus on Hainan Island through the middle line and west coast. Tickets are available for sale 3-5 days in advance at the bus stations.

If you wish to visit the cities in the north west part of Hainan Island from Sanya, the easiest is to take train from Sanya to Haikou, then bus from Haikou West Bus Station to cities and towns in the northwest of Hainan Island. Bus from Sanya to Guangzhou, Shenzhen & Zhanjiang: Sometimes it is very difficult to get train ticket from Sanya to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang or the flights are too expensive, travel by bus is the cheapest way. Sanya to Guangzhou daily at CNY311/person in a bus with sleepers, departure time from Sanya is 14:00, and it takes 16 hours to be in Guangzhou Bus Station. Sanya to Shenzhen Daily at CNY441/person in bus with sleepers, departure time from Sanya is 12:20, and it takes 18 hours to be in Shenzhen. Sanya to Zhanjiang: one at 08:30am and the other at 20:40 and it takes about 8 hours to be in Zhanjiang, the cost is CNY208.
