Named Ziben 2000 years ago, Wenchang has a long history over 2000 years being a very important town in Northeast of Hainan Island since 110 B.C. In the year 627, Wenchang got her name. In 1995 Wenchang became a city from a local town under Hainan Island Province.

The past 10 years saw a great change in Wenchang's economy and tourism development. Before the opening of Sanya Airport in 1994, all the tour groups visited Wenchang first night, second night in Xinglong, Third night in Sanya, and the last night in Haikou. But since the construction of Sanya Airport, many group tours skipped Wenchang which made Wenchang a very quite place now. Most visitors are from Haikou or overseas Chinese who visit their relatives and friends in Wenchang during their Hainan Island Trip.

Wenchang on Hainan Island is not a popular tourist destination, so it is not easy to get right & updated information on Wenchang Hainan Island. 1. There is no airport in Wenchang, the nearest one is Haikou Airport which is 40 minutes driving.

2. Wencheng is the center of Wenchang City, there are public transportations available from Wencheng to all the towns in Wenchang.

3. Taxi is available also in Wenchang, fare from RMB5, extra KM at RMB1.4

4. Your visa for China is also valid for visiting Hainan Island China, so you don't need to worry about Visa problem even if you have single entry visa.
