Year round in Sanya, the weather is wonderful. As we are located at the edge of the tropical zone we really have only two seasons. In summer our average daytime high temperature is 32 degrees centigrade (85 degrees Fahrenheit), in winter it is 25 degrees centigrade (78 degrees Fahrenheit).

A word of caution about the sunshine: Use sunscreen and re-apply liberally all day long. Protect children with sun block containing zinc oxide or the latest 'in-sun suits' that protect from harmful rays. Hats and sunglasses are also a must.

Note: July, August & September are raining months. So it may happen that for a week, it is sunny in the morning and rains cats and dogs in the afternoon. It is also typhoon season.

Entry Requirements & Customs of Sanya, Hainan Island: 

Sanya Hainan Island is part of China. Your visa for China is valid also for Sanya, Hainan Island. Landing Visa is also possible if you travel directly from abroad to Sanya. But it is only valid for Hainan Island. If you want to visit other places of China, you have to apply visa in Sanya Hainan Island.

Mandarin is our official language and in most of 4 and 5 star resorts, the management and staff can communicate in English.

When to make your holiday in Sanya, Hainan Island

Unlike other destinations, Sanya's 'high' and 'low' seasons are not dictated by the weather here, as it is usually always great. Hotel rates change slightly all year around. But during public holidays like the Chinese New Year (Late Jan to early Feb.), Easter in April, Labor Days (30 April - 6 May), National Days (30 Sept. - 6 Oct ), Christmas & New Year (22 Dec. - 3 Jan), most hotels charge premium rates, and prepayment or guarantee by a credit or charge card is a must.

What to Pack for your holiday in Sanya Hainan Island

Sanya's casual attitude makes packing a breeze. For daytime, shorts, tee shirts, sandals and a  hat or cap, sunglasses, and a swimsuit are usually all that is needed. For evening, the dress style is 'smart casual' - sundresses for women and slacks and a shirt for men will take you most places in style. Do leave space in your luggage for souvenirs, gifts, and some 'real tropical wear' to take home.

Payments method in Sanya-credit cards are accepted in most of the hotels & resorts

Most popular credit and charge cards are accepted in three, four and five star hotels. But for dining outside the hotels, renting a car, airline ticket purchasing and shopping, cash payments are requisite.  The amount of cash you can draw from your credit cards in the hotels or banks is limited daily. A copy of your passport is a must to make exchanges and you must bring your passport along with you if you wish to draw cash from your credit card.

Money Exchange

Exchange service is available in most of the hotels and all banks. The exchange rate fluctuates with international market conditions.

Please note you can change money only in the hotels you stay and you need to show your passport. And the kind of changeable currency is limited. Also, and extremely important - Chinese banks are extremely fussy about the condition of any currency. They refuse to accept any foreign currency that is even very slightly torn, marked, written on, or defaced in any way. Any sticky tape on notes will also result in them being refused for exchange. So do ensure that you only bring pristine foreign currency paper notes.

 Taxes

Sanya has no VAT (value added tax). All the rates quoted include tax except a local tax of 2-11 per guest per night (varying according to the rating of hotels). This local tax may be included in rates quotes - but always request a written or email confirmation.

Safety

Keeping safe in Sanya is simple. Just follow the same common sense rules that you would follow anywhere. Lock your car and keep your valuables within sight and reach. Use the safe box in your room or at the reception in the hotels. Contact the Assistant Manager at your hotel anytime you need assistance.

Emergency Telephone Calls

Dial 110 for police, 119 for fire and 120 for ambulance. In Sanya, ocean safety is very important. Most of the resorts will advise guests by flags with different colors. If advised not to swim, do not. Heed the international signage at local beaches, which alerts you to rough sea conditions, rip currents, jellyfish, and high surf. Please note that the hotels are not providing a safe guard, so swimming, as in most places around the world, is at your own risk.

Telephone Services

The telephone code for whole Hainan Island is 898. Local calls on each island are 50 cents from a pay phone. Long distance charges vary by destination. IDD and phone cards are available in most of the hotels.

Internet Connections

Internet connection is not a problem in Sanya. Broadband is available in most of the 4 and 5 star hotels and resorts. Some of them offer free, some of them charge. Some hotels even provide computer in the room or wireless internet access in the lobby.
